Detectives ID suspect in 1976 homicide of Kentucky Teenager

Wednesday, March 8, 2023Last October, Season of Justice funded DNA analysis and FGG research to assist the Boone County Sheriff’s Office (Burlington, KY) in the Carol Klaber case. Carol was just 16 years old when her life was cut short by the hands of another on June 5, 1976.

As a result of that DNA testing conducted by Othram Inc., BCSO announced today, March 8, 2023, that they’ve confirmed the identity of Carol’s killer, putting this 47-year-old cold case to rest. Carol’s killer passed away in 1990, and while he won’t see judgment in the courtroom, investigators believe this identification could lead to the conclusion of other unsolved crimes and are working to have his DNA uploaded to CODIS. “Season of Justice is honored to assist the Boone County Sheriff’s Office in their efforts to find justice for Carol Sue Klaber,” said Brad Schleppi, Executive Director, Season of Justice. “We salute Detective Cox, and the entire investigative team that spent decades working to find resolution for the Klaber family.”

Thank you to the Boone Co. Sheriff’s Office’s Cold Case Unit and the team at Othram for their tireless work on this case and for proving that even the coldest of cases can be solved. We hope this brings some peace to Carol’s loved ones.
